Kookum Scarf: Water
Kookum scarves are worn by Indigenous women across North America. These scarves go by many different names worldwide but originated in Slavic and Scandinavian countries. Kookum is a Cree and Michif word for grandmother. My grandmother, Mary Sayers referred to her grandmother in this way. These bright floral designs made their way to tribal communities and were used as a common trade item. Soul Curiosity Kookum scarves are original designs inspired by plains and woodland Anishinaabe floral motifs.
